(L to R: Patrick Quinton, Riad Sahli, Commissioner Nick Fish, Ruth Ann Tsukuda, Senator Jeff Merkley, David Greaves, Margaret Van Vliet, Paul Cummings, Kyle Hansen)

Gray’s Landing has opened!

On Friday, December 14, 2012 REACH was joined by City Commissioner Nick Fish, Senator Jeff Merkley, and a host of dignitaries to celebrate the Grand Opening of Gray’s Landing!

“Gray’s Landing is a wonderful addition to the South Waterfront area and will provide homes and a strong foundation for working families and our veterans. With 42 units reserved for veterans this building will be a showcase for the City of Portland,” said Senator Merkley. “It is only fitting that this new development is named after an unsung Oregon hero, John Gray. John was a longstanding supporter of affordable housing and it’s an honor to have this building named after him.”

Gray’s Landing, a $50 million dollar project, is home to 209 affordable apartments, with 167 of the apartments targeted to working people with modest incomes.  The remaining 42 apartments are set aside for very low-income veterans.  The apartments are located above 17,000 sq. ft. of commercial space.  REACH has moved its administrative offices into a portion of the first floor commercial space, purchased for $1.79 million.

Gray’s Landing is a collaborative development between REACH, City Commissioner Nick Fish, and the Portland Housing Bureau.  The building has been named after philanthropist and developer John Gray to honor his longstanding support of affordable housing, contributions to the built environment in Oregon, and service as a veteran.  Gray’s Landing brings the City of Portland one step closer to realizing the promise of affordable housing in Portland’s newest neighborhood.

Project partners include the City of Portland-Portland Housing Bureau, Oregon Housing and Community Services, U S Bank, Enterprise Community Partners, Home Forward, and the U S Department of Veterans Affairs.  The development team includes REACH, the Housing Development Center, Williams & Dame Development, Walsh Construction Co., and Ankrom Moisan Associated Architects.
