Hispanic Heritage Month
The growth and development of culturally specific organizations need to be an absolute priority in our communities.
Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to recognize this as a priority, and also year-round. Culturally specific organizations are not exclusive organizations, in fact, they are often some of the most inclusive organizations because they deeply understand the long-term impact that exclusion has had on communities.
REACH is striving to be inclusive, and more culturally responsive, though we are not a culturally specific organization. Culturally specific means serving a particular cultural community and primarily staffed and led by members of that community. And to realize dreams for a more just and inclusive world, it is critical that culturally specific organizations grow and thrive. They have been under-supported for too long.
REACH recognizes that we are a better organization when there are thriving culturally specific organizations within our region.
And so, this Hispanic Heritage Month, we encourage everyone to explore & support culturally specific organizations serving Hispanic and Latino communities, organizations like Bienestar, with a 40-year track record serving Latino communities in Washington County.
REACH is currently partnering with Bienestar to create new affordable housing, including Plaza Los Amigos in Cornelius that will be owned and sustained by Bienestar for the long run.
Bienestar builds housing, hope, and community for the well-being of Latinxs, immigrants, and all families in need.
