REACH Affordable Housing CEO Dan Valliere to Transition After 10 Years of Leadership

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 3, 2023

PORTLAND, ORE.  –  Dan Valliere, CEO of REACH Community Development (REACH) announced today he will be transitioning out of his role as the organization’s leader after a decade of service. Valliere will work closely with the REACH Board of Directors and leadership team to guide REACH through a thoughtful transition and will remain in his role during the search for the next CEO.

“I’ve learned from and met so many amazing people living, working, and contributing within the many communities of REACH about why having a place to call home is the foundation for everything. I’m feeling so much gratitude for that,” said Valliere. “I am proud of the work we have accomplished together. The organization has a clear vision for the communities we are serving—and will get to serve. I am confident this will be a smooth transition, and the REACH team will lead this work into the next critical chapter.”

Valliere joined REACH in May 2013 when the Portland region was already facing a serious affordable housing shortage. During his tenure, REACH remained steadfast in its mission to create quality, affordable housing, and opportunities for communities to thrive. The organization built or acquired over 1,000 rental homes in the Portland/Vancouver region, while maintaining affordable rents and providing other support services that help people thrive. Today over 3,500 people in more than 2,700 affordable apartments call a REACH community home.

In an ever-changing landscape of affordable housing, REACH is building on its legacy and dedication to community development. With developments such as 72Foster in Portland, including public plazas, community spaces, retail spaces, and intentional outreach to communities impacted by past and current racial discrimination, REACH is moving forward with five affordable housing projects in design or construction and plans for continued development.

“I want to personally thank Dan for his dedicated service to REACH over the past ten years,” said Jill Lam, Chair of the Board of Directors at REACH. “Dan has always been focused on addressing the root causes of our housing crisis, including the shortage of affordable housing. Throughout the transition, we will be working closely with our business and government partners to continue responding to the region’s affordable housing crisis, including new developments planned in Tigard, Beaverton, Cornelius, and Portland.  And most important, we will sustain our service to and affordable rents for the thousands of people who make their home at a REACH community.”

The REACH Board of Directors has started implementing its succession plan, including a search process seeking regional and national candidates. The Board has engaged BroadView Talent Partners, which specializes in the nonprofit affordable housing sector. Valliere will remain in his position during the search process, which is expected to take six to eight months.
