Q&A with Eric Buenrostro Azúa

What was your first job and what did it teach you about work and leadership?
If we don’t count washing cars in middle school and the Mr. Miyagi-style lessons I got from it, my first official job was at a Cinemark movie theater when I was in high school. I mostly cleaned the theaters after the shows, and occasionally, I was given a concessions shift. I learned that no matter how hard you work, nothing surpasses the power of teamwork!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received that still guides you today?
Never underestimate the power of holding two opposing ideas at the same time. Work hard to see the value in each and seek solutions that honor both.

What do you like to do during your free time?
I have a community garden plot that keeps me busy. I also enjoy running, and lately, I’ve been learning how to play tennis.

What’s one fun fact about you that people might not expect?
I can’t sing, and I don’t care—I still do it with passion!

What excites you most about joining REACH’s mission and team?
Organizations like REACH serve as the moral compass for the nation. Our mission speaks to the power of collective humanity in action, and I am humbled to be able to join an organization with such a meaningful purpose.

Anything else you would like to share?
I am genuinely excited about joining REACH. Since I started my career in Human Resources in the early 2000s, I’ve aspired to grow a socially-focused career by working in organizations that make a difference. I can’t think of a better place than REACH to fulfill this vision. I look forward to finding the best ways to work together.
